Friday Foodie Find: Acme Cafe

2 Jul

Do you ever find that you go to places, but only have time (or room in your stomach) for a quick snack or nibble? I find a lot of amazing restaurants, bakeries, dives and everything in-between like that, and I always seem to lose my way back to them. Here’s hoping blogging about my Foodie Find will solve that problem. Call it your foodie ramp up for a delicious weekend :-)

Lovely Loren has her pie and eats it too at Acme Cafe!

I’ve been hearing a lot about Acme Cafe lately, so I decided to check it out with my friend, Loren, one sunny afternoon. We came here more to catch up, but managed to try some of their signature dishes while we chatted.

Shrimp Guacamole Sandwich

Loren had the Shrimp Guacamole sandwich: whole wheat hoagie bun, shrimp, avocado puree, , corn, shredded jack cheese, diced tomato and onion dressed with lime, cumin and cilantro. Loren really enjoyed this one, but it did end up completely falling apart on her halfway. Note to Acme Cafe: get stronger whole wheat hoagie bun.

High-Falutin' Grilled Cheese

I had the High-Falutin’ Grilled Cheese: cheddar, Swiss, brie, Grand-Marnier cranberry relish, on a grilled Ciabata panini. This was good, but not as good as a normal cheddar grilled cheese with a bowl of tomato soup. I did like the relish though. The orange flavor was great and something I’d never had with any cheese before.

Trinity of Side Dishes

We both liked the added touch of potato chips, coleslaw and pickles to our meal. It totally gave Acme Cafe that diner feel I always look out for in small restaurants like this.

Yummmm!

The server totally got us to try out the Chocolate Creme pie despite our full bellies. WOW. So worth it. The crust was so good and the chocolate creme thick, rich and oh-so satisfying. Ask for the whipped cream topping and be happy.
