Triple D Seattle: Southern Kitchen

29 Nov

I’m addicted to the Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.” I have yet to find any Vancouver equivalents to the eateries on the show, so I was super excited to head down to Seattle to try out a few restaurants that were featured on “Triple D” (as host Guy calls it). Here’s one of ‘em:

Southern Kitchen

1716 6th Avenue
Tacoma, WA 98405

Spotted: Guy Fieri’s head framed on the wall. Lurve it.

We were so impressed by the food featured on Triple D that we ventured 45 minutes outside of Seattle to Tacoma, Washington. Thankfully, the drive was worth it!

Cornbread– Served pancake style. Nothing special or different. Tastes good though.

Mango lemonadeLoved this.  It’s more sweet than sour. Comes with mango pieces. Get it with whipped cream.

Cajun Catfish Strips with collard greens, black-eyed peas and buttered corn– AMAZING. Catfish was flaky and not dry. Batter was crazy good and cajun spice on top was a nice addition. Buttered corn was the best side dish.

Southern fried chicken with candied yams, buttered corn, mashed potatoes– Classic fried chicken the way it should be. Best perfectly battered, crispy chicken skin. Candied yams were deliciously sweet if you’re into that. Good mashed potatoes with gravy.
